Yimei Zhu received his Ph.D in materials physics from Nagoya University, Japan in 1987. In 1988 he  joined  Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) as Assistant  Scientist and became Tenured Scientist in 1997.  He was a co-founder and the Facility Leader of the Center for Functional Nanomaterials at BNL.  He currently is Senior Physicist and Group Leader at Dept. of Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science and Head of Institute of Advanced Electron Microscopy, BNL. He is also an adjunct professor at Dept. of Applied Physics and Mathematics, Columbia University, and Dept. of Physics and Astronomy, and Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering at Stony Brook University.  During his career he has served on various academic committees, published 1 book, 10 book chapters, 400 peer reviewed journal articles, and 150 conference proceedings, and delivered 250 invited talks at international conferences and academic institutions.
