Theoretical method development for many-body effects in complex functional layered materials inevitably involves manipulation of symbolic mathematical expressions with complexity beyond normal human capability. My project aims to utilize techniques from modern computer algebra to perform the symbolic manipulations automatically, so as to free method-developers from repetitive and error-prone mechanical tasks and make them able to concentrate on the most essential physics and insights about the materials.
