Alexey Aladyshkin defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled “Peculiarities of the mixed state in the thin superconducting films” at the Institute for Physics of Microstructures Russian Academy of Sciences (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia) in 2004. After his thesis, he was offered a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium). During this period, he focused on theoretical and experimental investigations of the thin-film superconductor-ferromagnet hybrid structures and, in particular, the formation of localized superconductivity, guided by non-uniform magnetic field, in such systems. After completing his postdoctoral fellowship in 2008, he was hired by Institute for Physics of Microstructures Russian Academy of Sciences to conduct experimental research in the field of fabrication and characterization of ultrathin metallic structures, including testing their local properties by means of scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy.
